Dear KC Families,
Our Rhyme Time play is right around the corner! On Friday, March 13th , the kindergartens will perform in the auditorium. We will begin promptly at 8:15 and gather in KC after the show for a brief work share. The performance and workshare should be wrapped up 8:45.
We have been very busy in literacy and math. The key concepts that we have been focusing on in literacy are the short vowel sounds, tapping out the sounds in words, and noticing the rhyming sounds in books, poems, and songs. Looking ahead, we will continue to learn some special “sight words” (words to know by sight and not tap out), and also learning about digraphs, blends, and word families. In writing we have been making "How-To" books on various topics such as how to make pasta, how to be kind, how to get ready for recess, and more! In math, our big ideas in March and April will focus on adding and subtracting within 10 (or beyond if children are ready), as well as solving word problems.
We are looking to collect soup cans for a special art project/service project. When we are finished using the cans to learn more about famous artist, Andy Warhol, we will donate them to the Brookline Food Pantry. We are asking that each family please bring in one Campbell’s Tomato Soup can with no special promotions on the label. Thank you for your help!
After our Rhyme Time play begins a new science unit about taking care of the earth. Our unit will be broken up into four main topics: Composting, water conservation, reducing/reusing/recycling, and making the world more beautiful. In order to learn more about The Three Rs, we would like to start collecting small, recycled materials for an art project in April. Bottle caps, bread tags, or other small plastic pieces will all work well but the possibilities are really quite endless. Please make sure that these items are on the smaller side (no bigger than a bottle cap), and well cleaned before they are donated. Thank you for your help!
Sarah
